Norma was built for the NCB and delivered new to Maesteg colliery and named as was the practice at this location after colliery managers daughters. In 1969 the loco was returned to the manufactures for overhaul, on delivery back to the South Wales Coal board the loco was reallocated to Graig Merthyr colliery. Here the engine was a regular performer until the mine shut in 1979, Norma worked its last train on the route in early 1980 in connection with waste trains. The Loco entered preservation in October 1980 moving to Oswestry, restored to working order in 1986 the loco was used at Oswestry and hired out to other preserved lines. In 1997 the loco boiler certificate expired and it is stored pending a mechanical and boiler overhaul.
