Buy a Ton

CHR are putting together an appeal for money to purchase ballast for the track at Oswestry Station.

One of CHR’s projects for this year is the continuation of the Oswestry station enhancement. The long-term aim of this project is to see three lines through the station and two usable platforms with trains passing at Oswestry! In the short term, we have the sleepers and rails to complete the initial track work within the station, but the ballast for a base and boxing in needs to be obtained. We are therefore launching a ‘Buy a Ton’ appeal to cover the stone cost and take a step towards the dream.

The cost of new ballast is around £40+ per ton – so, to keep costs down, we will be using reclaimed ballast at, we hope, around £25 per ton. However, as we will need about 400 tons, this will still amount to £10,000. As we don’t have this money to spare in the CHR bank accounts, we are launching an appeal for people to ‘Buy a Ton’ of ballast at £25 per ton to help fund the ballast in the station section. Any surplus monies raised from ‘Buy a Ton’ donations will be used towards the cost of tamping the ballast and the Down Platform improvements.
